Diabetes DiagnosisOur body blood glucose level changes during the day and can be measure before and after a meal. Diabetes diagnosis is made by a simple diabetes blood glucose level test, either fasting, random or post prandial. Fasting blood glucose level is checked when you have been without food or drink for ten to twelve hours. The fasting blood glucose level for a person without diabetes should be between 3.5 and 5.9 mmol/litre. A diabetes random test is done at any time regardless of whether you have eaten or not. Random blood glucose levels for a person without diabetes is considered to be less than 7.8 mmol/litre. Post prandial blood glucose level test is taken two hours after eating a meal.

Diabetes Blood Glucose TestThere are a variety of other diabetes blood glucose test available where further testing is needed to confirm a diabetes diagnosis. One test is the glucose tolerance test where a fasting blood glucose test is performed, then 75g of glucose is given orally and further blood samples tested one and two hours afterwards.
